About Feeding Therapy…

Feeding Therapy can help if your child has difficulty with:

  • Skilled, coordinated movement of the mouth for safe and efficient eating and drinking.

  • Regulation of state for feeding as a newborn.

  • Latch, seal, and / or suction for efficient breast or bottle feeds (in conjunction with breast feeding professionals as needed for mother / infant dyad difficulties).

  • Transitioning from breast or bottle through hierarchy of food textures.

  • Decreased strength of head and trunk for postural skills that support feeding development and readiness for more solid foods.

  • Fine motor coordination for more precise movements between the eyes, shoulders, and hands for self-feeding skills.

  • Oral sensory-motor / feeding skills pre / post release of tethered oral-tissues

  • Transitioning from tube to oral feedings with support of medical team

  • Excessive drooling / Open mouth posture

  • Acceptance of new foods with selective eating.

  • Overstuffing of mouth with decreased sensory awareness.

  • Tolerating toothbrushing / oral hygiene.

  • Reduced food or liquid intake with weight faltering.

  • Touching and safely eating a variety of food textures.

  • Coughing, gagging or spitting food out.
